How do I join and what are the requirements to hold a pistol licence in NSW.

If you are interested in becoming a pistol shooter and wish to try out the sport, you are required to complete a P650 declaration. This allows you to use the range as an unlicensed person. If this proves satisafactory, you are (under close supervision) given the opportunity to fire a pistol on the range.

If you wish to continue to become a member of the Club, you are then required to complete a membership application form which goes before the Club committee for acceptance. If your application is successful, and upon receiving the relevant documents from the Club, you may apply for a Probationary Pistol Licence (PPL) from the NSW Firearms Registry (FAR).

Once a PPL from FAR is obtained you will undergo a training program.

The training program covers:

  • safe firearm handling, transport and storage

  • individual responsibilities and obligations

  • club, range and match procedures

  • correct shooting technique

A Compliance Record is maintained throughout the training program noting attendance, scores and progress.
